Frequently Asked Questions

What is a sedum?

Sedum is a large genus of drought-tolerant succulent plants. They have thick fleshy leaves that store water, which helps them survive long dry spells. Perfect for the UK heatwaves sedum produce clusters of small, star-shaped flowers in shades of pink, yellow, white or red.

Take a look at our product range and choose the perfect shade for your home.

Do sedums stay alive all year round?

Yes, because they are hardy-plants most sedums stay alive all year round. They even survive the winter seasons, including frost and freeze damage.

Our reflexum range will keep their fleshy, colourful foliage through winter months, while other ranges may lose their growth above ground, dying back to a dormant crown. These will stay alive and re-emerge every spring.

Do I need to water sedums regularly?

No, these drought-tolerant succulent plants, store water in their thick, fleshy leaves meaning, they need little care. Watering them too often can harm them by causing root rot or weak, floppy stems.

Sedums on our green roofs are planted in well-draining soil which allows sedums to survive on natural rainfall alone.

Is a sedum a house plant?

Sedum is both.

Are sedums frost hardy?

Our full range of British-grown sedums are known for being extremely frost tolerant.

Low growing sedums can tolerate freezing temperatures from -20°C to -25°C. However, upright varieties are deciduous and die back down to the root often going into a dormant state, then re-emerge in spring.
